The Market
We went to the market today. We bought mango's, pineapples, potatoes, tomatoes, and my favorite . . .sugarcane. Its a stalk, like bamboo, you suck on the fiber and spit out the husk. It's very good and juicy. Its really refreshing. The market is quite something. Muddy and dirty. You can buy anything there. I saw clothing, shoes, car rims, underwear, and all kinds fruits and vegetables. We also went to Wallmart. yeah its with two "L's", buts its pretty small and no relation to the stateside version. We had to get flour and butter there. We took a small bus, kinda like a minivan but smaller, called a "matatu" (Ma-tatoo). They are every where and they will take you anywhere. Due to bad road conditions they have no shock absorbers and it seems they try to hit every bump in the road.. The newer ones have Tvs in them and they play local music videos really loud. They are supposed to fit 14 people but usually they have 18 or more. Its pretty fun. A great thing about this trip is that we have some of the local guys with us at all times. They about 22 years old and they watch out for us and help us get the best deals on food and stuff. They are our life line.
